Prayer Guide 09 August 2020

Sunday

Connecting my heart to the heart of the Father
Thank You, Father, for Your tender shepherding of me, for holding me close to Your heart and gently leading me. I am so grateful that You know my weaknesses, which are many, and yet treat me so tenderly.

Help me Father, to do the same with those You have placed in my life. May my words and actions reflect Your gentle, compassionate character and become my character, until gentleness in my life is evident to everyone I encounter. May gentleness, as an expression of the fruit of the Holy Spirit, increase in my life, I pray. By the power of the Spirit at work in me, help me to be completely humble and gentle and live among my brothers and sisters in Christ in gentleness in the same way that a mother tenderly cares for her children.

Forgive me, I pray, for those times that I have treated others harshly or impatiently. Too often I am in such a hurry, that I walk past, or even run over people! Slow me down Lord, so that I see people as You do.

May I be aware of others' needs more than my own and respond to others with gentleness and respect (Pause and consider how this might be lived out in your daily routine).

May the ministry of my hands this day be an extension of Yours, Lord Jesus (Ask yourself ‘how can my hands minister as Your hands, Jesus?’).

May the words of my mouth be as if You Yourself were speaking. Help me to bless and encourage those I speak with (Ask for strength and grace to bless those you live and work with – even when it’s difficult).

May my life be a reflection of Your character (Pause and consider the character of Jesus. How is His character reflected in your life? Where is it lacking? Pray about these things).

Empower me to serve out of love that I would appeal to others. May the gentleness of Jesus be expressed through me and His Name glorified. I ask these things in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Monday

Praying the heart of the Father for the ECB Faith Community
Thank You, Lord Jesus, for bearing our sins in Your body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness. Empower us by Your Spirit, I pray, to truly live this way. Change the way that we act, think and speak and heal us, I pray, at the deep places of who we are, that are still wounded (1 Peter 2:24).

May our joy in knowing You, Lord, and the realization of what you have done for us through Jesus, fill us with increasing joy. Strengthen us with joy, I pray (Nehemiah 8:10)!  Father, may all pessimism, unbelief and negative thinking that is present among us be replaced with vibrant irrepressible joy in Jesus!

Tuesday

Father, may we not only love with the words that we say, but with actions and in truth, that our hearts might be continually at rest in Your presence (1 John 3:8-9).

Father, may we not give the enemy a foothold in our lives by holding onto anger, by Your Spirit, may we be increasingly patient with one another and bear with one another in love (Ephesians 4:26; 4:2).

I ask, Lord, that Your perfect love would drive away all fear from our lives. I pray for my brothers and sisters who are struggling under a cloud of fear and anxiety. I ask in Jesus’ name, that this heaviness be lifted and their trust in You increase (1 John 4:18).

Wednesday

ECB Prayer and Fasting Focus
Wednesdays have been set aside as a day of prayer and fasting for the ministries of ECB and to ask God for a greater outpouring of the Holy Spirit among us. You are invited to join in praying and fasting during one or all meals, or from something that is important to you. To receive a weekly Prayer and Fasting e-mail, please contact [email protected]
As you pray, mention by name those from ECB that the Holy Spirit brings to mind.

We wait in hope for You, O Lord, for You alone are our help and our shield. It’s in You that our hearts truly rejoice! We trust in Your holy name. May Your unfailing love rest upon the people of ECB, Father, even as we put our hope in You (Psalm 33:20-22).

Renew our minds, I pray. May we as Your people turn from the philosophies and entertainment of the world and truly think on things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy – may this be the standard for what we allow into our minds and hearts (Philippians 4:8).

Father, may our hearts remain steadfast, worshiping You, regardless of the news we hear, or the situations that we face. May we always praise You and remember Your great love for us (Psalm 108:1-4) (Pause and pray for those you know by name, who are encountering difficulties)!

I ask, Father, that our faith community might be marked by blameless living. May we walk according to, and fully obey Your Word (Psalm 119:1-4)!

Thursday

May we be those who worship You in Spirit and in truth Father.  Keep us from lying in Your presence (John 4:24; Isaiah 29:13).

In Jesus’ name, I ask that beauty, gladness and praise be poured out on those who are being tempted to despair (Isaiah 61:1-3).

Father, I ask that by Your Spirit, You would bind up the broken-hearted among us and set captives free. I pray for my brothers and sisters who are trapped in their minds by the pain of hurtful memories. I pray for healing in Jesus’ name and ask that their minds would be renewed and their living transformed (Isaiah 61:1; Romans 12:1-2).

Daily teach us, Holy Spirit, what it truly means to deny ourselves, pick up our cross and follow Jesus. Make us to be radical disciples (Luke 9:23).

Friday

Father, may the children and students of our fellowship grow strong in You and in Your mighty power. Protect them from the evil one and go before them into this new school year (Ephesians 6:10; John 17:15).

May we, as Your people, learn the way of ‘keeping in step with Your Spirit’. Pour out Your Holy Spirit on us and make us more like Jesus, I pray. Revive us, Lord (Galatians 5:25)!

Father, I ask that we, as Your people, might be increasingly known for our lavish love and forgiveness of one another. Keep us from pride that kills the work of Your Spirit and hardens our hearts to Your voice, calling us to ‘run home’ to You. Give to us I pray, the gift of brokenness and repentance. May we be clothed in humility  (Luke 15:11-32; 1 Peter 5:5).

Saturday

Restore life to the dead places of our hearts through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit! Revive and change us, Father! Wake us up from our slumber!

Father, prepare the hearts of Your people today to worship You tomorrow. Prepare my heart, I pray! May each of us come before you with songs of thanksgiving and joy – open our lips that we might declare Your praise – may our hearts be unleashed!

Pour out Your Spirit on us as we gather, change us and wash us by Your Word! Keep us from just listening to Your Word. May we be those who do what it says (Psalm 51:15; Ephesians 5:26; James 1:22)!

I ask, Lord, that You give to us ‘godly sorrow’ that brings repentance and leaves no regret. May we no longer make excuses for our sin. Give us the gift of brokenness, humility and tears before You. Increase our hunger for holiness (2 Corinthians 7:10).
