Prayer Guide 16 August 2020

Sunday

Connecting my heart to the heart of the Father
Father, You have admonished me in Your Word to control my body – my appetites and behaviour, in a way that is holy and honourable to You – to control my temper and be patient. But I confess, Father, that I fall short of this in many areas of my life, and I ask that You strengthen me by Your Spirit, so that I might not let sin reign in my body or give in to evil desires.

May the fruit of self-control continually increase in my life, that this godly characteristic may be evident in the way that I eat, how I shop, the hobbies I engage in, my sexuality, my words and in my actions… (Pause and allow the Holy Spirit to bring specific areas of your life, to your mind. Bring these before the Father)

May every aspect of who I am and how I live be under Your control, Holy Spirit! Fill me afresh, I pray, and burn away all that is not like Jesus. I submit to You now, in Jesus’ name (Pause and recommit yourself to the purposes of God in your life.).

Father, I do not want my religion to seem worthless to You, and so I ask that You would empower me to keep a tight rein on my tongue. Destroy idle talk and gossip in all its forms that is still evident in my life. May I be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, knowing that anger does not bring about the righteous life that You desire.

May my life be so controlled by Your Holy Spirit, that I truly live and move and have my very being in You alone. Help me this day, to not indulge my fleshly nature. Strengthen me to stand firm and be self-controlled in thought, word and action – wherever I am, whatever I do – in my public life, and especially when I am alone. Reign over me! Reign over my body, soul, mind and spirit – rule and reign over all!

I long to be a useable, noble vessel for Your purposes and the glory of Your great name. Change me from the inside out I pray.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Monday

Praying the heart of the Father for the ECB Faith Community
Father, keep us from leaning on our own wisdom – may we continually acknowledge You in all that we do. May we be found worthy of You and please You in every way, and bear spiritual fruit in every good work. Strengthen us with power according to Your glorious might, so that our endurance and patience will increase (Colossians 1:9-11; Proverbs 3:5-6).

It is written, Lord, that “where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom”. I ask in Jesus’ name, that the ministry of the Holy Spirit increase among us, that we might experience ever-increasing freedom from the entanglements of sin, strongholds and self-focused living; freedom to worship You in spirit and in truth; freedom to walk daily in the light of Your presence! Set Your people free, Lord (2 Corinthians 3:17)!

Tuesday

Lord Jesus, help us to abide in You, that we, as Your people, might bear spiritual fruit and by doing so, show that we are truly Your disciples. (John 15:5-8) Allow us, I pray, to see harvest come in, and souls come to know Jesus!

You have said, Lord, that You will give the Holy Spirit to those who ask – Father, I ask! Fill me afresh with Your Holy Spirit! Pour out Your Spirit on my brothers and sisters in Christ at ECB! Revive us – change us! Conform us to the image of Jesus (Luke 11:11-13; Psalm 85:6; Romans 8:29)!

Wednesday

ECB Prayer and Fasting Focus
Wednesdays have been set aside as a day of prayer and fasting for the ministries of ECB and to ask God for a greater outpouring of the Holy Spirit among us. You are invited to join in praying and fasting during one or all meals, or from something that is important to you. To receive a weekly Prayer and Fasting e-mail, please contact [email protected]
Father, I ask in the mighty name of the Lord Jesus Christ, that every curse and assignment of the enemy that has come against Your people, be crushed. Be the “wall of fire around us and the glory within” us, O God
(Zechariah 2:5)!

Father, I pray for those among the ECB community who will be moving or have already moved back to their home country or on to another assignment. Prepare them for what You have in store for them. Prepare the way before them Lord, and use them in that new place for the purposes of Your Kingdom.

Give us ‘God-sized’ dreams for the ministry that you wish to accomplish through us, for You are able to do more than all we can ask or imagine! Embolden us to be risk-takers for the sake of Your Kingdom (Ephesians 3:30; Hebrews 11:1, 6)!

Remember us O God, that we are Your people – the people of Your pasture and the flock under Your care. Gather us in Your arms and carry us close to Your heart, I pray (Psalm 95:7; Isaiah 40:11).

Thursday

Father, may we be strong in You and in Your mighty power, and not put confidence in our own strength. May each of us daily wear the full armour that You have provided – may we ‘put on’ Jesus! Remind us that our struggle is not against flesh and blood and strengthen us to stand firm. Teach us to pray continually (Ephesians 6:10-18).

I pray for those among us who are struggling with depression and despair. I ask, O Lord, that in the midst of even the darkest night, that they would be strengthened to lift their eyes to You and call on Your name. Bring them out,
I pray, and break away the chains from their hearts (Psalm 107:13-14) (Pause and pray for those you know, by name…)!

Encourage my brothers and sisters in Christ this day, to keep in step with the Holy Spirit (2 Thessalonians 1:11; Galatians 5:25) (Pray for those you know by name, and for yourself as well).

Friday

Father, may the children and students of our fellowship, grow strong in You and in Your mighty power. Protect them from the evil one and go before them into this new school year (Ephesians 6:10; John 17:15).

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I ask, Father, that You strengthen my brothers and sisters in Christ, to trust in You more and more for all things. I pray that You, the God of hope, might fill them with great joy and peace, so that they overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit! May it be so Lord (Romans 15:13)!

Father, I ask that you strengthen the marriages represented among us. May the hearts of husbands and wives turn towards one another. Protect covenant relationships against the evil one, I pray.

Father, I pray for those among us at ECB who are being tempted in ways they feel they cannot bear. Strengthen them this day to stand firm, Lord. Cut off every scheme of the evil one that comes against them, and provide a way of escape, so that they can stand up, victorious (1 Corinthians 10:12-13).

Saturday

Sponsor in our hearts, through the Holy Spirit, praise and thanks to Your great name. Release joyful worship from our lips – may we truly glory in Your name and rejoice! In all things, at all times, may we seek Your face and remember the wonderful things that You have done for us (Psalm 105:1-5) (Pause and praise God for who He is, and for all that He has done for you…)!

May our lives be infused with fresh faith, holy living and confidence in You. Make us to be risk-takers for the sake of Your Kingdom!

Father, I ask that You give us the gift of tears, I pray, as a sign that You are softening our hearts. Reveal to us, I pray, the things that keep us from truly drawing near to You (Psalm 119:2; Matthew 6:33).
