Prayer Guide 18 October 2020

Sunday

Connecting my heart to the heart of the Father
Father, help me to be confident that I will see Your goodness in the land of the living. Help me to wait for You – to be strong and take heart and to wait. I ask that my life would increasingly become a proclamation of Your greatness and goodness.

Make me fearless in the face of trials. Strengthen me, I pray, to stand firm and release my lips to worship You! You are great and awesome, O God! You alone are God, creator of heaven and earth – and I join with all creation and praise Your holy name!

Holy! Holy! Holy! Lord God Almighty,
who always has been, who is here right now, and who is soon to come!

Forgive me for withholding my praise and adoration, for being silent and even sullen and losing sight of Your greatness and glory. In doing so, I’ve allowed You to become small in my eyes and have taken situations and concerns into my own hands instead of trusting You and acknowledging You.

Father, forgive me for the ways that I have trusted in others or my own strength instead of trusting You. Increase my faith, Lord. May I be like a tree planted by the water (Your Living Water), whose roots go deep and leaves are always green. I choose now to unburden my heart and cast the cares that fetter my heart to this world, onto You – my burden-bearer:

  • relationships in my life that are fractured… (Pause and pray for these by name, ask for healing, reconciliation, humility to seek forgiveness).
  • those who are close to me who have yet to call on Your Name…
  • Pause and pray for these by name, ask for gentle-boldness to make Jesus known).
  • the weariness of finances… (Be specific in bringing these concerns before the Lord, ask for wisdom in stewarding His blessings)
  • the lostness and brokenness of the world… (Pray for global harvest).

O Lord, I choose again this day, to put my trust in You and hope in Your unfailing love, even though the ‘fig tree does not appear to bud or there are no grapes on the vines or crops fail. Yet I will rejoice in You’. I will be glad in You, trust in You, hope in You.

Thank You, that You are at work on my behalf, and nothing is too difficult for You! Hallelujah! In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Monday

Praying the heart of the Father for the ECB Faith Community
Father, destroy all pride among us and replace our hearts of stone with hearts of flesh (Ezekiel 11:19). Give us the gift of brokenness and repentance before You.

I pray for those in our fellowship who are young in their faith and ask that You protect them from the evil one. Give them a hunger for Your Word. May they grow in godliness (Pray for those you know by name).

May we, from youngest to oldest, become those who do not just hear the Word, but be those who do what it says (James 1:22). May we be increasingly quick and willing to obey.

Tuesday

Father, may spiritual vitality be renewed in our daily living, and all passivity and apathy cast out in Jesus’ name. Father, make us to be a people who live out the power of the resurrection (Ephesians 1:18-20)!

May our times of personal and corporate worship be infused with fresh Spirit-life, I pray. Teach us to worship You in spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24).

Jesus, You always had such great compassion on the crowds around You. May we, as Your people, feel the same for those we encounter, and respond with love. May we be known for our acts of kindness and compassion.

Wednesday

ECB Prayer and Fasting Focus
Wednesdays have been set aside as a day of prayer and fasting for the ministries of ECB and to ask God for a greater outpouring of the Holy Spirit among us. You are invited to join in praying and fasting during one or all meals, or from something that is important to you. To receive a weekly Prayer and Fasting e-mail, please contact [email protected]
Thank You, Father, that You are with us and You are mighty to save and heal us. I ask that You help us to understand what it truly means that You “take great delight in us”. I pray for my brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus at ECB who have never experienced this in any earthly relationship, and ask that You restore every fatherless heart. This day may they hear the song You sing over them (Zephaniah 3:17).

May we increasingly trust in You Lord, in every area of our living, and put our confidence in You alone. May we become like trees planted by water, and never fear when things become difficult. May we always draw from You, our Living Water, and never fail to bear spiritual fruit (Jeremiah 17:7-8; John 7:38).

Forgive us, Father, for the ways that we live as if we are ashamed of the Gospel. May Your power, expressed in the Gospel grab hold of our hearts once again and change the way that we live our lives (Romans 1:16)!

I ask, Lord, that You fill us, fill me, with a fresh determination to press on, to forget what is behind and strain towards the new things You have for us (Philippians 3:12-13).

Thursday

It is written, Father, “that godliness with contentment is great gain”. I ask, in Jesus’ name, that godly character grow in each of us, and that our lives be marked by contentment in all circumstances (1 Peter 6:6;
Philippians 4:11-13).

Lord Jesus, I ask in Your most mighty name, that Your rule and reign be established over the nations of the world. Empower Your Church around the world to be salt and light – revive us, I pray. Encourage pastors, open spiritual doors that have been shut! Reveal Yourself to the peoples of the earth, that whole villages and towns, even cities would come to know You!

Father, I pray for my brothers and sisters who are struggling with depression, anxiety and fear. I ask that they will be strengthened by the Holy Spirit to take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). Destroy every stronghold – set captives free!

Friday

Holy Spirit, teach us to be a community of faith that is devoted to prayer. May we call on Your name continually (Colossians 4:3).

It is written that we should not “love the world or the things of the world’. Help us Lord! Increase our love for You, that everything else might diminish and Christ Jesus, increase (1 John 2:15)!

In Jesus’ name, I ask that the broken hearted among our community of faith be healed. Comfort those who mourn, Father. May beauty, gladness and praise be poured out on their lives, displacing all despair (Isaiah 61:1-3).

Father, You have promised to bestow on Your people the oil of gladness in place of the ‘ash piles’ of our lives (Isaiah 61:3). Many of us Lord, struggle under the memories of past hurt, abuse and loss. Heal our damaged emotions Father, restore joy and gladness to us, I pray!

Saturday

May all of us tomorrow have hearts that are ready to receive the Word, and may we put into action what we hear (James 1:22). Prepare us today to worship You tomorrow. Prepare my heart I pray! Pour out Your Spirit on the ECB campus, hem us in with Your presence. Be the wall of fire around us and the glory within (Zechariah 2:5).

Father, I ask that the ECB community of faith become increasingly generous in the way that we ‘sow’ into your work. Forgive us for thinking that what we have to offer is too small, or not enough. Take our gifts, talents, time and money and multiply it over and over to feed many (2 Corinthians 9:6; John 6:1-15).

Father, I ask that those who come to ECB seeking answers about who You are and what it means to follow Jesus, will be drawn by the Holy Spirit to salvation. May each of us extend the welcome of Jesus to those around us and may Jesus be so seen among us, that many will come to faith in Him.  May there be salvation in Your house each week!
