Prayer Guide 03 January

Sunday

Connecting my heart to the heart of the Father
Putting off the old selfYou were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires (Ephesians 4:22).

Here I am Lord, coming before You again, aware of my great need of You and the places of my heart yet in need of Your healing and renewing touch (Be still before the Lord. Acknowledge that He is God. Ask Him to change you from the inside out).

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking my sins upon Yourself on the cross – for paying my debt. Strengthen me with the power of the Holy Spirit that I might truly die to the influence of sin in my life, and live a lifestyle that pursues righteousness.

I pray this also for my brothers and sisters in Christ at ECB, that we would truly put to death everything that belongs to our earthly nature. May sexual immorality, impurity, lust of all kind, evil desires and greed be eradicated by the Holy Spirit. May we truly become alive in You!

I ask that You open our spiritual eyes that we might be aware of:

– the ways that the enemy of our souls has taken us captive,
– where we have allowed sin to grow and take root,
– where we are making excuses for thoughts, emotions and behaviours that are contrary to Your Word,
– where the ‘old-self’ is still reigning (pause and pray further).

Your Word admonishes us to live in this world as those who do not belong to this world. Teach us Holy Spirit, how to love others and engage people as Jesus did, and yet live as “aliens and strangers”. May we not love the world or the things that it represents!

Instead, may our faith community be marked by a holy determination to throw off everything in our lives that trip us up, or slow us down in our following after You. May sin not rule over us!

Thank You for setting us free Lord Jesus! Strengthen us to stand firm in the victory of the cross. May we this day, crucify our sinful natures and walk in the truth of Your Word (Pause and pray for your brothers and sisters in Christ that you know by name. Ask God to strengthen them by the Holy Spirit to walk worthy of their calling in Christ).

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Monday

Praying the heart of the Father for the ECB Faith Community
Father, may the Holy Spirit strengthen me and my brothers and sisters in Christ today, so that we do not grow weary in doing what is good (Galatians 6:9).

Teach us, Father, to serve one another in love. Destroy, I pray, by the work of the Holy Spirit among us, any gossip or discord and all jealousy that is in our midst (Galatians 5:13-15, 19-21).

Father, may we become a fellowship of believers who increasingly rejoice in our salvation and give You the glory that is due Your name! Fill us with joy in Your presence as we worship in our everyday living, and when we gather together (Psalm 51:12; 96:8).

Tuesday

Father, I ask that You would give to the ECB faith community the Spirit of wisdom and revelation so that we might know You better (Ephesians 1:17)!

Heavenly Father, may the fruit of the Spirit increase among us in all of its fullness. May we live lives that are full of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. In all our conversations, relationships and situations, may the Holy Spirit use us to make Jesus known (Galatians 6:22-23).

Father, may we as Your people give generously of our time, talents and resources that the ministries entrusted to ECB might grow and prosper and many come to faith in Christ (Pray for ministries that you are connected with at ECB, ask God to raise up others to minister).

Wednesday

Father, may the children and students of our fellowship grow strong in You and in Your mighty power. Protect them from the evil one and go before them in this new school year. Strengthen them to be salt and light (Ephesians 6:10;
John 17:15).

Anoint our pastors (David King, Steve Odera, Kevin Moua, René Dekker) with Your Holy Spirit, and empower and encourage them in all that they do. Fill them with Your wisdom and strengthen them with joy in You.

Encourage those who lead LIFE Groups, teach our adults, work with our children, disciple our youth – all who minister among us.

Praise God for growth in all areas of ministry. Ask God for increased harvest in 2021!

Thursday

Thank You, Father, that all things have been placed under the authority and feet of Jesus! Therefore, as those who are in Christ, may we put off fear and timidity and live out the Gospel with greater confidence and joy (Ephesians 1:22; 2 Timothy 1:7).

Father, I ask in Jesus’ name, that the nations of the earth would be blessed through our community of faith. Expand our territory I pray, and may we be part of global Gospel-witness (Galatians 3:8-9).

Teach us, Father, to serve one another in love. Destroy, I pray, by the work of the Holy Spirit among us, any gossip or discord, and all jealousy that is in our midst (Galatians 5:13-15, 19-21).

Pray for our brothers and sisters worldwide who are being persecuted for their faith in Christ. Ask God to raise up a standard against the evil that comes against them. Pray that they will be strengthened to stand firm.

Friday

Remind us by the Holy Spirit, I pray, that we are dead to our transgressions and sins and alive in Christ! Awaken the sleeping places of our lives to this great truth (Ephesians 2:1, 5).

This day Father, may I and my brothers and sisters in Christ, live before others as those who are clothed in Christ. May nothing that we say or do tarnish the testimony of Jesus (Galatians 3:27).

Father, I ask in the mighty name of the Lord Jesus Christ, that every curse and assignment of the enemy that has come against Your people, be crushed. Be the wall of fire around us and the glory within us O God (Zechariah 2:5)!

May we increasingly trust in You Lord, in every area of our living and put our confidence in You alone. May we become like trees planted by water, and never fear when things become difficult. May we always draw from You, our Living Water, and never fail to bear spiritual fruit (Jeremiah 17:7-8; John 7:38).

Saturday

In Jesus’ mighty name, I ask, Father, that we would be followers of Jesus who live by the Spirit and keep in step with the Spirit. May the sinful nature in each of us truly be crucified I pray (Galatians 5:24-25)!

May our times of personal and corporate worship be infused with fresh Spirit-life. Teach us to worship You in the Spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24).

May we, from youngest to oldest, become those who do not just hear the Word, but be those who do what it says (James 1:22).  May Your Word be the one true standard for our lives. May we joyfully walk in Your ways.

Anoint those who lead us in worship tomorrow with the Holy Spirit and may Your Word be proclaimed with boldness, changing us as we listen.

Make us to be a true house of prayer (Mark 11:17).  As we gather tomorrow for House of Prayer, grow us in prayer, Lord!
