Prayer Guide 10 January

Sunday

Connecting my heart to the heart of the Father
Speaking truthfully with one anotherTherefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body (Ephesians 4:25).

Heavenly Father, I come to You today confessing my great need of the work of the Holy Spirit in the deepest places of my heart. It is written in Your Word that You desire truth in the inner part of who I am, and so I ask Father, that truth be found at the core of my being.

Loving Father, have mercy on me I pray. Shine the spotlight of the Holy Spirit on every corner of my heart, expose all darkness and every lie. In every way that I pretend, cover up, ‘stretch the truth’, deny You by the way that I live when no one is watching – I confess these to You now (Pause and be still in God’s presence).

I come to You, Father, on behalf of the ECB church community, and ask that in the hearts of my brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, truth would also be found. Jesus said that it is out of the overflow of our hearts that our mouths are fed with words to build up or to tear down, and so I ask Father, that we might be people of truth deep within our hearts.

May we put off everything that is less than truth I pray.

Destroy exaggeration, deception of all kinds, false flattery – every expression of falsehood.

May the ways that we lie to protect ourselves, or to avoid admonishing one another, be put to death.

Instead, teach us to speak the truth in love to one another, that we might encourage one another to grow up in Christ and continue in our pilgrimage with Him until we see His face.

In all things, in every opportunity, may we be those who encourage and build each other up as we speak truthfully with one another. Do this I pray, that Jesus, who is the Way the Truth and the Life, would be seen and proclaimed with greater freedom and joy among us. Begin with me Lord, for this is the desire of my heart.

I ask this in submission to Your Word O God, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Monday

Praying the heart of the Father for the ECB Faith Community
Father, I ask in Jesus’ name that the nations of the earth would be blessed through our community of faith. Expand our territory I pray, and may we be part of global Gospel-witness (Galatians 3:8-9).

I pray for those in our fellowship who are young in their faith and ask that You protect them from the evil one. May their faith increase.

In Jesus’ name, I ask that the brokenhearted among our community of faith be healed. Comfort those who mourn, Father. May beauty, gladness and praise be poured out on their lives, displacing all despair (Isaiah 61:1-3) (Pray for brothers and sisters in Christ you know, by name).

Tuesday

This day, Father, may I and my brothers and sisters in Christ, live before others as those who are clothed in Christ. May nothing that we say or do tarnish the testimony of Jesus (Galatians 3:27).

Father, may the world know that we belong to You by the way that we love one another. May the unity of the Spirit and the bond of peace increase in our fellowship (Ephesians 4:2-3).

Help us to be completely humble and gentle with one another and to bear with one another in love (Ephesians 4:2-3).

Father, I pray for our pastors, elders and deacons, those who you have placed over us, and I ask that You give to them wisdom and discernment from heaven as they watch over the flock of ECB. Strengthen them with joy in Your presence, I pray.

Wednesday

Heavenly Father, I ask that You would strengthen Your people to always pray and never give up. Teach us to pray (Luke 18:1-8; Luke 11:1).

Strengthen us to stand firm in the freedom that we have in Christ Jesus. Make us aware of the ways that the enemy is deceiving us and causing us to live as slaves, rather than sons and daughters (Galatians 5:1, 4:6-7).

Father, I ask that by Your Holy Spirit, new songs of praise and worship be written on our hearts. May we become a people who increasingly rejoice in our salvation and give You the glory that is due Your name! Fill us with joy in Your presence as we worship in our everyday living, and when we gather as the community of faith (Psalm 51:12; 96:8).

Thursday

Teach us, Father, to serve one another in love. Destroy, I pray, by the work of the Holy Spirit among us, any gossip or discord, and all jealousy that is in our midst (Galatians 5:13-15, 19-21).

May we increasingly trust in You, Lord, in every area of our living and put our confidence in You alone. May we become like trees planted by water and never fear when things become difficult. May we always draw from You, our Living Water, and never fail to bear spiritual fruit (Jeremiah 17:7-8; John 7:38).

Father, may spiritual vitality be renewed in our daily living, and all passivity and apathy cast out in Jesus’ name. Father, make us to be a people who live out the power of the resurrection (Ephesians 1:18-20)!

Pray for our brothers and sisters worldwide who are being persecuted for their faith in Christ. Ask God to raise up a standard against the evil that comes against them. Pray that they will be strengthened to stand firm.

Friday

Heavenly Father, may the fruit of the Spirit increase among us in all of its fullness. May we live lives that are full of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. In all conversations, relationships and situations may the Holy Spirit use us to make Jesus known (Galatians 6:22-23).

Father, may the children and students of our fellowship grow strong in You and in Your mighty power. Protect them from the evil one, and go before them, empowering them to stand firm in their faith (Ephesians 6:10; John 17:15).

Lord Jesus, I ask in Your most mighty name, that Your rule and reign be established over the nations of the world. Empower Your Church around the world to be salt and light – revive us, I pray. Encourage pastors, open spiritual doors that have been shut! Reveal Yourself to the peoples of the earth, that whole villages, towns – even cities would come to know You!

Saturday

In Jesus’ mighty name, I ask, Father, that we would be followers of Jesus who live by the Spirit and keep in step with the Spirit. May the sinful nature in each of us truly be crucified I pray (Galatians 5:24-25)!

May Your Word be proclaimed tomorrow with boldness, changing us as we listen.

May our times of personal and corporate worship be infused with fresh Spirit-life. Teach us to worship You in the Spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24).

May we, from youngest to oldest, become those who do not just hear the Word, but be those who do what it says (James 1:22).  May Your Word be the one true standard for our lives. May we joyfully walk in Your ways.
